Parents Beware of the UNCRC

Since 2002, Belgium has allowed doctors to terminate the lives of infants under the age of 12 months if they feel the baby is somehow disabled or deficient.

Are you a parent? If so, do you believe that you know what is best for your children? My answers to those questions are yes and yes, so imagine my concern, when I learned recently that some folks in powerful government positions disagree with my position. If your answers are the same as mine, then you might want to learn more about the UN Convention of the Rights of a Child (UNCRC) if you haven’t already.

In 1995, President Clinton signed the UN treaty, but decided not to submit it to the Senate for ratification, after early Senate opposition decided that the “Convention marked a significant departure from the American concept of the relationship between state and child, and was incompatible with the right of parents to raise their children.” Now the news is reporting that both President-elect Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton are planning on pushing this treaty to be ratified by congress this year.

Those in government who wish to see the treaty ratified this year would have you believe that they really care about your children and have their best interest at heart. Let’s look at their track record to see if that is true. Our government has failed miserably at protecting the youngest children, the unborn, with the legalized abortion. In 2002, while serving in the Illinois legislature, President-elect Obama, failed to support the Induced Infant Liability Act, a bill that would protect babies that survived late-term abortions. Fortunately, later the same year, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, was signed into law by President Bush. What about older children? Tax payer dollars fund Planned Parenthood, an organization that protects child rapists by performing abortions on under aged girls without parental consent and promotes promiscuity among young people with its TeenWire website.

What about the UN?
Does this agency really want what is best for the world’s children? Does the UNCRC really protect them in the countries where the treaty has already been ratified? According to the UN, the best place you can raise your children is the Netherlands. Children in the Netherlands are encouraged and allowed to engage in risky and promiscuous behaviors beginning at a very young age. In Holland the age of consent is set at 12. And not only are 16 year olds allowed to smoke, they are able to buy pot in the store next to the school. “In 2006, over 92% of fifteen year-old boys admitted using some form of contraception, and the rate for fifteen year-old girls was even higher, at 97%.”

Belgium is another country high on the UN list of desirable countries, in which to raise children. I was greatly disturbed to know that given the following three paragraphs that I read at parentalrights.org:

“The Belgian government’s authority over the health and education of its children is deemed by many as a mark of progress toward a “better society” where children’s rights are properly recognized and protected. Those that satisfy the government’s standards live in peace. For the rest, there is no peace, and sometimes, they are not even allowed to live.

Since 2002, Belgium has allowed doctors to terminate the lives of infants under the age of 12 months if they feel the baby is somehow disabled or deficient, and is likely to suffer in life as a result.14 More than half of the Belgian babies who die before they are a year old are killed by deliberate medical intervention.15 In 16% of cases, parental consent was not even considered.16 To put these numbers in perspective, the CIA World Fact Book estimates that roughly 106,000 babies are born in Belgium each year.17 Even using conservative estimates of Belgium’s rate of assisted-suicide in infants, one can estimate that some 470 children will die before they celebrate their first birthday. Of these 470, more than 200 will die not from natural causes, but from direct medical intervention. Forty (40) of them will die regardless of their parents’ wishes, objections, or pleadings. Such a program might produce a “better society,” but one is left in horror at the ultimate sacrifice of innocent babies.

Unfortunately, the program has been deemed so “successful” in Belgium that in March 2008, the government began considering legislation that would also make assisted-suicide available to teenagers and younger children who are terminally-ill.18 “

It seems to me that the UNCRC isn’t really about taking care of children; rather it is about removing parental rights to give complete control of society to the government. The United States, which has the best child protection laws in the world, ranks lowest on the list, probably because parents are given more control over their children’s health and education, than anywhere else in the world.

The Real Reason for UNCRC

I believe there is even something more sinister behind the UNCRC and the push to have it ratified here in America. If parents here lose control of their children’s education, the government could actually make it illegal for Christians to teach their children about the Lord and biblical faith. Can you imagine it being against the law to tell your children that the way to Salvation is through Christ alone? Am I over reacting? Given the sentiment in this country toward biblical Christianity, already, I don’t believe, so.

Also, tell everyone you know and ask them to join the fight. Call or email your senators and congressmen also. This is a battle that we must not lose. Let us not wake-up one day too late to realize that the freedoms that we hold so dear are lost forever. -Susan Altamirano

Ten thousand enemies cannot stop a Christian, cannot even slow him down, if he meets them in an attitude of complete trust in God. They will become to him like the atmosphere that resists the airplane, but which because the plane's designer knew how to take advantage of that resistance, actually lifts the plane aloft and holds it there for a journey of 2,000 miles. What would have been an enemy to the plane becomes a helpful servant to aid it on its way....

If this should seem like a bit of theorizing, remember that always the greatest Christians have come out of hard times and tough situations. Tribulations actually worked for their spiritual perfection in that they taught them to trust not in themselves but in the Lord who raised the dead. They learned that the enemy could not block their progress unless they surrendered to the urgings of the flesh and began to complain. And slowly, they learned to stop complaining and start praising. It is that simple--and it works! We Travel an Appointed Way, 32-33.

"Lord, I wish I could more readily 'stop complaining and start praising.' I pray for Your grace to work within me that I might allow the trials to lift me aloft rather than press me down. I'll do it in Your strength today. Amen."

Sharing the Gospel at the Homecoming Parade

This past October 3, I went to the Homecoming Parade of my alma matter, Sissonville High School, to share the Gospel. I was able to talk to several young people one2one about where they will spend eternity. One young man who was kind enough to talk with me had his face painted in the Sissonville colors and admitted that he was concerned that if God judged him by the 10 commandments that he would spend eternity in hell seperated from God. From what he told me, it sounds like he is being raised in a Christian home with a Christian monther, but has not yet repented and believed in Christ for Salvation. I hope that since our conversation, Terey, has repented and trusted in Christ as his Savior. I hope I spelled his name correctly. I had it written down, but misplace it.

The Kind of Reformation the Church Really Needs

I found the A.W. Tozer devotional for today to be especially relevent to the church right now, so I decided to post it here at my blog. Rick Warren, Leonard Sweet, Brian McLaren and the other proponents of the emerging church are talking about a reformation that is really no reformation at all. They preach a different gospel than the real Gospel of Jesus Christ, don't be taken in or deceived by something that sounds close to the truth. Study your bible and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you into all Truth. He will be faithful to do it. Here is the devotional:

Revival: Doing the Will of God

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. --1 John 5:2-3

We urgently need a new kind of reformation throughout our Christian churches--a reformation that will cause us not only to accept the will of God but to actively seek it and adore it!...

The reformation we need now can best be described in terms of spiritual perfection-which reduced to its simplest form is no more and no less than doing the will of God! This would expose us all at the point of our need, no matter how sound we think we are in doctrine and no matter how great our reputations.

I long for the positive and genuine renewal which would come if the will of God could be totally accomplished in our lives. Everything that is unspiritual would flee, and all that is not Christlike would vanish, and all that is not according to the New Testament would be rejected....

Do we voluntarily and actively observe God's commandments, making positive changes in our lives as God may indicate in order to bring the entire life into accord with the New Testament?

That is the active aspect of the will of God that I would own as reformation in the church, and it would surely result in revival.

This is a previous post from my other blog, but I wanted to post it here also because I believe it has a very important message.

Passion For Personal Holiness

I want to share one the devotions that I read yesterday. It is from “Reflecting God: Devotions for Holy Living”. The scripture reference is 2 Tim. 2:20-21.

Being passionate for personal holiness is an attitude that develops in a person because they “seen God’s heart” on the issue of personl holiness (Isa. 1:1-8). How can a deeper passion to “cleanse ourselves” be developed?

First, realize that personal purity comes from living according to God’s Word (see Ps. 119:9). Second, memorize and meditate on God’s Word consistently so you do not sin (see Ps. 119:9). Third, realize that personal purtiy is not a once for all experience, but rather a daily discipline that requires keeping your body and mind under the Spirit’s control (see 1 cor. 9:27).

You cannot decide you will be pure for the rest of your life and then never think about it again. It is a daily passion you must nurture. Today, ask God to break your heart over the things that break His heart when He sees what is happening in our world. Get angry in your spirit at sin when you see it, but love the peole who are involved in it. Pray for them, “that they will come to their senses and escape the trap of the devil” (2 Tim. 2:26). “Cleanse yourself and become an instrument for noble purposes!”–Rev. larry McKain

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is found in 2 Timothy. It is chapter 2, verse 19, and it says: “But the firm foundation of God Stands, sure and unshaken, bearing this seal: The Lord knows those who are His, and Let everyone who names himself by the name of the Lord give up all iniquity and stand aloof from it.”

We are called to live a holy life unto the Lord. So, please do not call yourself a Christian unless you are willing to imitate Christ. It is no small thing. You won’t fool the Lord, He knows who are His. You are only fooling yourself and that has severe consequenses for eternity.

Don't Talk to Snakes

A coalition of groups led by Soul force is targeting six U.S. mega-churches in an effort to foster dialogue about Christian views on homosexuality. Caleb Price with Focus on the Family says the campaign by the homosexual advocacy group has a friendly façade that belies the agenda of the group -- and that the churches targeted need to be on guard…

"As with any temptation to disregard God's clear word on any given matter, this attempt by Soulforce and their allies is a classic example of what we see in Genesis Chapter 3, when the serpent tempts Eve by [asking] 'Did God really say ...?'" says Price. "And I think perhaps the biggest lesson we can take from that account is it's best not to talk to snakes. Scripture clearly teaches that there will be a great falling away in the last days and there will be wolves in sheep's clothing who will try to enter into the fold and deceive even the elect.

Megachurch leaders such as Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, and Robert Schuller have principles like the elastic in an old woman’s drawers: It will stretch to fit almost any shape! They have problems with principle. It seems their ambition has outrun their character.

In deciding right and wrong, character does not consider friends or foes, personality or position; family or faith; reputation or riches, but will apply absolute truth that comes from the Scripture.

The above three leaders of aberrational Christianity are very careful to never offend anyone with such “barbaric” teachings as personal sin, repentance, judgment, hell and the like; but they are not careful about their attacks upon Bible believing Christians, especially fundamentalists! Fundamentalists are people mushy evangelicals love to hate. Strange isn’t it! The above trio (and their long list of desperate wannabes) tells us to be tolerant of homosexuals, Muslims, even Liberals yet they refuse to be tolerant of Bible-believing Christians! That shows inconsistency and lack of character.

The Door to Heaven

“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” John 10:9

Jesus, the great I AM, is the entrance into the true church, and the way of access to God himself. He gives to the man who comes to God by him four choice privileges.

1. He shall be saved. The fugitive manslayer passed the gate of the city of refuge, and was safe. Noah entered the door of the ark, and was secure. None can be lost who take Jesus as the door of faith to their souls. Entrance through Jesus into peace is the guarantee of entrance by the same door into heaven. Jesus is the only door, an open door, a wide door, a safe door; and blessed is he who rests all his hope of admission to glory upon the crucified Redeemer.

2. He shall go in. He shall be privileged to go in among the divine family, sharing the children’s bread, and participating in all their honours and enjoyments. He shall go in to the chambers of communion, to the banquets of love, to the treasures of the covenant, to the storehouses of the promises. He shall go in unto the King of kings in the power of the Holy Spirit, and the secret of the Lord shall be with him.

3. He shall go out. This blessing is much forgotten. We go out into the world to labour and suffer, but what a mercy to go in the name and power of Jesus! We are called to bear witness to the truth, to cheer the disconsolate, to warn the careless, to win souls, and to glorify God; and as the angel said to Gideon, “Go in this thy might,” even thus the Lord would have us proceed as his messengers in his name and strength.

4. He shall find pasture. He who knows Jesus shall never want. Going in and out shall be alike helpful to him: in fellowship with God he shall grow, and in watering others he shall be watered. Having made Jesus his all, he shall find all in Jesus. His soul shall be as a watered garden, and as a well of water whose waters fail not.

The Preaching of Repentance

Let every man understand that he will never have remission of sin while his is in love with sin, and that if he abides in sin, he cannot obtain the pardon of sin. There must be a hatred of sin, a loathing of it, and a turning from it, or it is not blotted out. We are to preach repentance as a duty. "The times of this ignorance God winked at, but now he commands all men everywhere to repent." "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins." He that has sinned is bound to repent of having sinned. It is the least that he can do. How can any man ask God for mercy while he abides in his sin?

We are to preach the acceptableness of repentance. In itself considered, there is nothing in repentance deserving of the favor of God, but the Lord Jesus Christ having come, we read, "He that confesseth and forsaketh his sin shall find mercy." God accepts repentance for the sake of His dear son. He smiles upon the penitent sinner, and puts away his iniquities . This we are to make known on all sides.

We are also to preach the motives of repentance--that men may not repent from mere fear of Hell, but they must repent of sin itself. Every thief is sorry when he has to go to prison; every murderer is sorry when the noose is about his neck. The sinner must repent, and not because of the punishment of sin, but because his sin is sin against a pardoning God, sin against a bleeding Savior, sin against a holy Law, sin against a tender gospel. The true penitent repents of sin against God, and he would do so even if there were no punishment. When he is forgiven, he repents of sin more than ever, for he sees more clearly than ever the wickedness of offending so gracious a God.

We are to preach repentance in its perpetuity. Repentance is not a grace, which is only to be exercised by us for a week or so at the beginning of our Christian career. It is to attend us all the way to Heaven. Faith and repentance are to be inseparable companions throughout our pilgrimage to glory. Repenting of our sin and trusting in the great Sinbearer--this is to be the tenor of our lives; and we are to preach to men that it must be so.

We are to tell them of the source of repentance, namely, that the Lord Jesus Christ is exalted on high to give repentance and remission of sins. Repentance is a plant that never grows on nature's dunghill. The nature must be changed, and repentance must be implanted by the Holy Spirit, or it will never flourish in our hearts. We preach repentance as a fruit of the Spirit, or else we greatly err.

These words are refreshing. Nowadays, if repentance isn't neglected entirely by preachers, it is negated to a mere change of mind about God. There are some who discourage the preaching of "repentance" because they say, "The world doesn't understand the word." Then we should educate them until they do. We shouldn't dumb down the message, but instead lift up the understanding of those who, without repentance, will perish. -- Ray Comfort
